How this page works, and what will never appear on it

What happened

The Brief exists because you should be able to find out whether anything has changed for your household without wading through a feed designed to keep you angry. We publish an item when an official or on-the-record source has said something that changes what an ordinary household should do, or when something is being widely reported that does not change anything and we can say so.

What it means for your household

Most weeks, the honest answer is that nothing has changed. We will keep saying that, in plain words, and we will not invent an item to fill the page.
