Warm Dry Fed

About

Three words, and a cupboard.

Warm, dry and fed is the whole standard. If your household can stay warm, dry and fed for a few days without shops, power or tap water, you are prepared, and everything else is detail.

Why this exists

In the space of about two years, every government we cover started asking households to hold a few days of supplies. The European Commission set 72 hours. Ready.gov and FEMA ask for three days and then two weeks. Britain confirmed a national campaign of its own.

The trouble is what filled the gap in the meantime. Search for any of it and you get shops: buckets of freeze dried food, burning maps, countdown timers, and a great deal of advice that is illegal, useless or both depending on which country you happen to be reading it in.

This site is the opposite of that. It is the boring, official, actually useful version, written once for each of the three places we serve, in the words each of them uses, with the numbers each of them publishes.

How we pay for it

At the moment, we do not. There is no advertising, no affiliate commission on anything on the cost pages, and nothing to buy. If that ever changes, it will be clearly labelled on the page it appears on, and it will never change what we recommend. The rules on what we will never do come first.

What we are not

We are not an emergency service, a government body or a charity, and we are not a substitute for any of them. If life is at risk, call 999 or 112. If an official instruction contradicts anything on this site, follow the official instruction, every time.
