Britain confirms a national campaign asking households to keep supplies at home
What happened
The Cabinet Office confirmed on 14 July 2026 that a national resilience campaign will launch later in 2026, encouraging households to prepare for severe weather, flooding, cyber incidents and other disruption. The suggested items are bottled water, food that needs no cooking, a manual can opener, a flashlight, spare batteries, a power bank, a battery or wind-up radio and basic first aid supplies, allowing 2.5 to 3 litres of drinking water per person per day. The guidance explicitly asks people to build supplies gradually rather than panic buy.
What it means for your household
That this is now ordinary. It is the same advice Finland, Sweden, Germany and the United States have given for years, and the same advice we give here. If you have a cupboard with a few tins, some bottled water and a flashlight, you are already doing what the campaign will ask.
Nothing urgent. If you want to be ahead of it, the free plan on this site is the whole of the campaign and costs nothing.
