No car
If you do not have a car
Most emergency advice quietly assumes a driveway. Yours will be better than theirs.
The honest version
You are more dependent on information and on neighbors, and less dependent on fuel, which is a fair trade.
Your bag has to be carryable
Test it. Actually put it on and walk to the end of the road. Nearly everyone packs a bag they cannot carry for a mile.
Know one walking route out
Not a driving route. Where the footbridge is, which way is uphill, and where the nearest large public building is.
Ask early
If you would need a lift to leave, arrange it now with a named person, and have a second name. Asking at nine in the evening on the night is much harder.
Cash matters more
Buses, taxis and small shops go cash-only fastest.
